About the Artist: SHEILA METCALF
I am fascinated by the ancient weaving traditions of Southeast Asia and India. Color and texture are integral parts of everyday life in these countries, and I want to share that almost-mystical feeling with the women who wear my clothes. The spontaneity of weaving hand-dyed yarns speaks to me, and is a source of never-ending surprise. Working with the traditional shapes of Asian garments, I can create coats, jackets and wraps that make every woman feel special. Being surrounded by so many gifted fiber artists on Lopez Island who are so generous with their time and talent gives me great joy. I am truly blessed.
